Shooting in the Ballroom

Photographing in the Baker Center Ballroom is awful. The walls are a beige, the ceiling seems to devour any amount of light I bounce into it and the stage lights make color balancing a hassle. However, this is the norm for a photojournalist. We need to know how to shoot, compose, adjust, visualize and capture genuine moments in any lightless environment. Recently, I documented two events there: the 2014 Indonesian Night and a visit from broadcast journalist Soledad O'Brien. In January, I took on another job as the staff photographer for the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and still maintain my position as the Marketing and PR Director for the International Student Union. Check out my selects from the two events.

January Recap

With the first month of 2014 approaching its end, I look back at some memorable frames I've captured since I've started the new spring semester at Ohio University. Over the past few weeks, I've photographed a variety of events. I shot Ohio Senator Rob Portman's visit to the Ohio University's Innovation Center, the Athens County Engineer, two Ohio University Men's Basketball games and chicago-based twin DJs, Milk N' Cookies. Enjoy!

Baja California, Mexico

I spent the holiday break in Ensenada, Mexico visiting my friend's family and eating copious amounts of seafood and tacos. It has been a year since I last traveled to a Spanish-speaking country thus after fumbling on my words for several days I reacquired the grasp of the language. During my free time, I wandered the streets and nearby beaches in search for interesting characters and brilliant light.
